Girl, 2012
© Dylan Hamm, All Rights Reserved

I just got back from a Road Trip I did with some amazing friends. www.justwonlife.blogspot.com . I have many photos to edit and show to the world, so they will be coming up soon. This is one of my favourite shots from the trip.
We were just leaving our stay at the Chateau Frontenac and while the rain came down. There was this girl reading on a window sill, just out of the rain. I walked by her, and couldn’t leave without taking her photo.I went back, and even though I am horrible with my french, she understood my hand actions, and allowed me to take her photo.

3.

these 3 guys are who I am spending the next 2 weeks with in an RV across the East of Canada. Jeremy, Calvin, and Jordan. We will be blogging about our trip throughout the whole, thing, and because of a lack of internet, I will be editing/posting pictures when I get back in Early June. We started the trip with a cottage retreat to Calvin’s family cottage. The last morning, when we were leaving the island, the fog rolled in and hid every horizon line in sight. Made for some pretty cool portraits, as well as scenic landscapes of the dock. Here are the photos of said 3 men. Check out our epic quest across the EAST SIDE!!!. www.justwonlife.blogspot.com

Enjoy and cheers.

Pirate//Photoshop class

This was my final photoshop assignment. Take what we had learnt with photoshop, and create a image. I had seen this character walking around school for the past two years, and had always wanted to take his photo. What he looks like now is what he always wears minus the make-up done by the ever so lovely Beth Bower. This was my last chance, so I jumped at it, and came out with some pretty sweet shots.

What If…

This series chronicles and articulates my biggest fear, a fear that is currently happening all around me, which is the cyclical progression of those who put aside ambitions, dreams, and adventure in order to attain comfort and safety - usually at the expense of the latter.

Throughout life, we are conditioned through the teachings of our parents. We are taught from young to stay safe. Babies are in a safety zone for 9 months before birth, and after are heavily monitored by their parents. Right from the start we are taught that safety is the number one priority. We continue to grow from that foundation.

From then on we second guess ourselves, keep from new interactions, and miss great opportunities because of that subconscious search for this ideal lifestyle. From avoiding eye contact in the streets, or hallways at school, to settling down with your first love, to avoid the potential of aloneness and being unloved. From first having dreams, but a parental roof over your head, to being that parent trying to keep your kids safe from the world. From being self conscious of your body as a teen, to keeping a 9-5 cubical job to pay the bills. All ages are socially conditioned to maintain that “American Dream” mentality that we all know and love.

I want to break free from this. I have been living this mentality my whole life, and I need a change. What if I stepped off this soft, tender, safe, trusted piece of grass. What if I didn’t need that grass.

This project chronicles the progression of human ambition for dreams through social conditioning/necessity etc., until it has been extinguished and the end result is merely regret – my biggest fear. A fear which I refuse to succumb to.

Lindsay//Pensive

I am currently in the process of printing off the shots from my fellow Sheridan students at school. In between prints, I have been going through my archives, to try and find some hidden gems. I came across this beauty remembering the shoot I did with my good friend, and fellow photographer Lindsay Miller. I had lost most of the files from this shoot, but had exported a few before it was too late.

Working on a late night assignment that’s due tomorrow, and took another route to produce work I was proud of, rather than just finishing a project and going to bed.

Steph//Bridge
Finally back in the studio with the lovely Steph Degiovanni. Very talented dancer, and friend. Its always a pleasure to photograph her.
I used this for an assignment at school, which is really a second part to a previous assignment. The assignment is labeled “beauty”. My job was to photograph my interpretation of beauty. Very wide open, other than it’s a portraiture class. The first part of the assignment I shot ( http://tinyurl.com/7h6gdcl ) showed beauty as both mental determination and physical outcomes from that. I decided to expand on that idea, and use a female. Where day after day, you work hard to prefect dance, and your movements. I find it amazing that someone can stretch like this flawlessly, over and over. I can hardly touch my toes, so I have a lot of respect for this determination and devotion Steph has.
